Certified medication aides administer prescription medications only at the delegation of a nurse to residents of nursing homes and residential care facilities. This 3-week training includes 45 hours of lecture and lab practice to prepare students to distribute medications in long-term care and residential care facilities. Students also spend at least 16 hours in clinical practice in a long term care and/or residential care facility, distributing medications under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.

 

Approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN)

 

Training Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age

  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalent diploma

  • To function as a Certified Medication Aide in a nursing home, the applicant must be listed as “active” on the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry

  • To function as a Certified Medication Aide in a Residential Care Facility, you must have at least one year of direct care experience in a Residential Care Facility OR be listed as “active” on the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry.

  • Provide a clean background check
