Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
Certified medication aides administer prescription medications only at the delegation of a nurse to residents of long-term care or skilled nursing facilities. This 32 hour training, 16-hour of lecture and lab practice helps prepare students to distribute medications in long-term care and residential care facilities. Students also spend at least 16 hours in clinical practice in a long term care and/or residential care facility, distributing medications under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Successful completion of the training students will receive a certificate of completion and be able to sit for the state test.

Training Requirements
Minimum Requirements:

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age

Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalent diploma

To function as a Certified Medication Aide in a nursing home, the applicant must be listed as “active” on the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry

To function as a Certified Medication Aide in a Residential Care Facility, you must have at least one year of direct care experience in a Residential Care Facility OR be listed as “active” on the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry.
